18% And Counting

Why

In the United States, Hispanics/Latinxs are more likely than any other ethnic group to purchase movie tickets relative to their population percentage. They make up about 18% of the entire United States population, but are 23% of moviegoers. Through the use of satirical posters, that would be placed in high entertainment recruitment areas, I want to create a conversation about the stereotyping and misrepresenting of Hispanics/Latinxs in film and television.

About

My name is Juan-Felipe Pataquiva. I am a Graphic Designer with a passion for just about everything design. This is just one of many projects I have both designed and curated. This project's purpose is to continue the conversation about Latinx and Hispanic talent within the entertainment industry. This project hits close to home as I am someone who has personally been effected by this and have been a witness to several current events that have demonstrated the continued efforts of both the Latinx and Hispanic population and celebrities. Latinx and Hispanics make up about 18% of the entire United States population, but are 23% of moviegoers; this demonstrates a disproportion and an underrepresentation of actors and actresses who are just like us. Thank you for visiting the page and taking a look at a project that I have worked on over the span of two semesters.
